Healthy vs. Damaged Nerve Cells

  • Healthy myelin functions as a protective layer around the nerve allowing electrical signals to be passed through the neuron without any problems.
  • When myelin is damaged is stops the electrical signals from properly passing through the axon which can lead to problems inside the brain and throughout the body
  • Damage to the myelin is called Demyelination.
